With "Just What I Had In Mind" completing it's run on the New Music Weekly magazine charts, capping out at #56, Mike Lawrence is looking forward to releasing "Who Needs An Angel" soon. This is probably his best work to date and should be his signature tune according to many who have heard it. I took Mike's new CD to my New Years Eve party this year and it was very well received. Everyone wanted to know who that was singing. There were comments like "He sounds like early Merle Haggard or Kenny Rogers". Nice. This CD is a welcome breath of fresh air, what with all the banging, clanging, and shrieking that passes for music and singing today. The artistry here is in the voice and music, not the pretentions and gyrations of performance. Mike is an uncompromising singer-songwriter whose work is very deep and moving and relies upon the honesty and deep feelings projected from his visions that bring back beautiful memories and let one experience those feelings once again. Mike also has a likable public persona can go a long way in show business and country music in particular.

For those living in caves without TV, Radio,or MP3 - Mike Lawrence is a hot new C/W singer, songwriter, musician who is just now coming in to his own with the release of his first CD DOGS AND DIAMONDS. The songs are bouncy, well written and the romantic ones certainly set the mood.

If you have an XM Radio, you can hear "No Handlers", a radio program on the "America" channel (channel 10). "No Handlers" is designed to showcase artists who are not well-known in the music industry, and who don't have promoters from one of the recording studios behind them. I fit both of those categories, and they will be showcasing several of Mike Lawrence' songs on this version. The show initially airs on Saturday at 6:00 PM EST, and repeats Sunday at 4:00 AM EST and again Monday and Friday afternoons at 4:00 PM EST.

Mike started to play country music at age 12 with a $15 flat top guitar and a book of chords. At 15, Mike joined a band called ‘Yesterday’s Children” and after high school, worked as a dock worker and truck driver until joining the U. S.Air Force in 1975. While stationed in England, he met a group of guys and formed a band that played at the base Rod and Gun club on a regular basis. After the Air Force, he returned to Portage, Michigan, joined a band called Country Roads and spent three years playing many clubs and private gatherings. In 1981, Mike became acquainted with the manager of Buck Lake Ranch where he performed opening acts for Conway Twitty, George Jones, Jack Greene, and Alabama.
After a vacation from music for 20 years to raise his three sons, Mike returned to his first love, singing at The Music Barn in Martin, Michigan the second Saturday of every month and at Faith Chapel in Kalamazoo, Michigan the third Saturday of the month.

DOGS AND DIAMONDS is Mike's first CD, produced by Eddie Kilroy, who has received many awards including "Country Music Producer of the Year". The musicians on the CD have played with some of the biggest stars in the business, including Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and others.
